French jets pound ISIS near Kirkuk

The US-led Coalition announced on May 18 that “During the early morning on May 10, after an air refueling carried out by an American KC-10 tanker aircraft, two French Rafale jets destroyed a building used by Daesh fighters as a beddown location, west of Kirkuk, in an area identified as a sanctuary for the terrorist group.”

According to the press release “France remains engaged in the coalition against Daesh on several fronts.” There is a frigate in the eastern Mediterranean permanently and air missions of Rafale jets are stationed on the BAP and in the UAE, occasionally reinforced with other means, officers inserted within the OIR staff.

France says the jets “completely destroyed a building used by Daesh fighters as a bed down location (BDL) west of Kirkuk, in an area identified as a sanctuary for the terrorist group. This mission directly contributes to the reduction of the military potential of the terrorist organization in order to prevent any resurgence on its part and makes it possible to support the Iraqi forces engaged on the ground.”
