Protests on Mosul-Erbil road by Brigade 30 of the PMU at Bazwaya

A protest by members of the Shi’ite Shebek minority at Bazwaya near Mosul erupted on August 5. It was against decisions by the Prime Minister of Iraq to remove the unit from its activities as part of a general trend to enforce government control of the Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU).

An article at The Middle East Center for Reporting and Analysis explains the complex background.

Later there were clashes with Iraqi Security Forces and a tentative agreement. 30th Brigade has been accused of causing trouble by local Christians and has faced other issues. It is part of the overall after ISIS controversies.
